5 Popular Fantasy Series I Haven’t Read

(Last Updated On: )

We all have them, the classics, the popular books, the epic series that we just haven’t read. There’s no shame in it, not everything is for everyone. Today I present to you five popular fantasy series I haven’t read yet! First, there’s three I don’t particularly care about, but the last two are ones I actually would love to get into!

The Lord of the Rings – J. R. R. Tolkien

In general, I haven’t read a lot of “classics” (however we want to define them). I tend to get caught up in new releases and honestly, a lot of classics terrify me! Plus, I have a bad habit of whenever too many people tell me to read or watch something… I’ll just rebel and not do it. There’s a fine balance if you want to convince me to do something.

When I was in my big fantasy phase as a teenager, the Lord of the Rings books just seemed intimidating to me. They were these mysterious huge books that everyone seemed to know about and I almost felt like they required a secret code to unlock. Now, a few years later, I don’t read much fantasy anymore and the thought of fighting my way through a slow-paced epic… no thanks! Maybe once I’ve read more fantasy and have regained my ability to remember fantasy names I’ll give this series a shot. Oh, I also haven’t seen any of the films (which I’m pretty sure is a crime to some people).

A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas

Ah yes, one of the most loved and hated series of the bookish community. I haven’t read anything by Sarah J. Maas and I doubt I’ll ever read the whole series. But who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself? I would lie if I said I wasn’t at least a little bit intrigued, but given I don’t really like fantasy romances I just highly doubt I’ll enjoy this series! And when in doubt, I can just live through Cindy’s review videos.

A Song of Ice and Fire – George R. R. Martin

This is another big epic series I just don’t particularly care about! I haven’t seen Game of Thrones, mostly because I don’t think I could deal with the violence. Interestingly enough, I almost picked up the first few books in the series a few weeks ago at one of those tiny libraries. But then I remembered that I probably wouldn’t read them and that I’m pretty sure my library has them, should I change my mind.

Overall, I totally get the appeal of the series! And back in the day (that makes it sounds like I’m old… I’m not) when I was still reading fantasy after fantasy, I maybe would have liked them. Alas, here we are and this series probably won’t find its way on my TBR.

Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo

Finally, a popular series I haven’t read but plan to! I own Six of Crows and it’s been sitting on my shelf for over a year now. I’m pretty sure I’ll love this, after all, I am a sucker for heists. There’s just always so many other books that catch my attention so I keep forgetting about this series.

The Kingkiller Chronicle – Patrick Rothfuss

And lastly, a series I want to get into! I haven’t read anything by Patrick Rothfuss but I own The Name of the Wind as an audiobook. Honestly, I bought it partly because of good review but mostly because it’s insanely long and I get more bang for my buck. Overall, I don’t know much about this, other than that I think it’s framed by the main character recounting his adventures? Maybe going in knowing nothing is a good thing, maybe it’ll come to haunt me. Any advice would be appreciated!

What are some popular series you haven’t read? Do you plan to?

Uh, I love the structure of this post! Leigh Bardugo is definitely the one I want to give a go too!
Funny enough I watched about 100 of Game of Thrones recaps and character analysis but never saw the show or read the books xD
