2021 Releases I’ve Already Preordered

(Last Updated On: )

Finally, after much procrastination (and stress eating because of uni deadlines) I can present to you a list of some of my anticipated 2021 releases… specifically those that I have already preordered!

If you’re looking for a more comprehensive overview of 2021 releases that might be of interest to you, I suggest you check out Fadwa’s posts over on word wonders, they have compiled truly brilliant lists of both 2021 Adult releases and YA books coming out until June!

Princess at Heart – Connie Glynn – February 18

I devoured the first three books in this series at the beginning of 2020 and fell in love with the characters and all the adventure and mystery. The Rosewood Chronicles follow Ellie (an undercover princess) and Lottie (her princess-wannabe roommate) at Rosewood Hall, an elite boarding school. When Lottie gets mistaken for the princess, the two become friends and Lottie continues to pretend to be the real princess to protect Ellie. There’s a secret organisation, a brooding bodyguard and queer love (whoop whoop for representation!) This is the kind of series I would have absolutely adored when I was younger and I can’t wait to see how it continues.

Victories Greater Than Death – Charlie Jane Anders – April 13

I don’t know much about this book other than that it’s a YA sci-fi adventure and sounds very badass. The main character Tina seems to be a normal teenage girl but she is actually the clone of an alien commander who passed away. When she is needed to fight in an intergalactic war, she assembles a crew and gets to work. I have high hopes for the ensemble cast of this, you can always get me with a good space crew.

Project Hail Mary – Andy Weir – May 4

It is no secret that I love The Martian. At this point, it’s like 25% of my personality. So when I found out that Andy Weir is going to be back with another sci-fi novel…needless to say, I was excited.  This is quite possibly my most anticipated release of 2021 and I may be setting myself up for disappointment because I have no idea if anything can actually top The Martian for me…but I’m willing to give Andy Weir a chance.

Counting Down With You – Tashie Bhuiyan – May 4

After dipping my toes into some YA romances and being a strong believer in fake-dating supremacy this book immediately caught my eye. It has fake dating, a gorgeous cover and seems like it’ll make me fall in love with its characters on page one.

The Other Side of Perfect – Mariko Turk – May 11

This book had me at “ballet”, to be honest. Not only is it about ballet, but it is also about the perfectionism that comes with it and the pain of having to give up on a dream…and it’s about theatre. So basically, it’s all I ever wanted. I just know that I will relate a lot and that it’s gonna punch me in the gut and I will love it.

A Psalm of Storms and Silence – Roseanne A. Brown – June 1st

A Song of Wraiths and Ruins was my favourite fantasy read of 2020 and completely redefined how I think of the genre. Roseanne A. Brown managed to make me fall back in love with fantasy and I can’t wait to see what she does in this sequel, especially considering ASOWAR left us on a pretty mean cliffhanger.

Ace of Spades – Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé – June 10th

You say dark academia and I come running. That’s all it takes, really. I’ve heard so many good things about this YA thriller already, it’s probably in my top 5 most anticipated releases for this year!

Blood Like Magic – Liselle Sambury – June 15th

Blood Like Magic is a YA fantasy about a young witch who is tasked with killing her first love if she wants to save her family’s magic. I heard about this book because a few of my friends on Twitter were excited about it and now I totally see why!

The Box in the Woods – Maureen Johnson – June 15th

Truly Devious is one of my favourite YA mystery series so when I found out there was going to be another book, I did a little happy dance. I love Stevie, Janelle and Nate and am so happy I get to join them for another adventure!

How We Fall Apart – Katie Zhao – August 3rd

How We Fall Apart is a dark acadmia murder mystery that also explores Asian American experiences in highly competetive educational environments. I consider the fact that it comes out the day before my birthday a personal present for me because I am so excited to read this book!

The Hawthorne Legacy – Jennifer Lynn Barnes – September 16th

I had a fun time with The Inheritance Games last year (you can read my full review here) so despite the book not being what I initially expected, I am interested to see where the sequel leads us. Mostly, I’m crossing my fingers that this has some more riddles and mysteries because that was the one area book one underdelivered for my personal tastes.

Our Violent Ends – Chloe Gong – November 16th

Have I read These Violent Delights yet? No. Do I already know I’ll be obsessed with it once I do? Yes. So really, this is just a present to future-me so I can let Chloe Gong break my heart…again.
