WWW Wednesday #6 – May 26, 2021

(Last Updated On: )

Hello there and welcome back to another round of WWW Wednesday. Today, I have a new favourite book, some queer YA and one of my most anticipated releases of the year! If you’re interested in what I’m reading at any given moment, you can follow me on Goodreads and TheStorygraph and keep up to date!

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words! All you have to do is answers the following three questions:

1) What are you currently reading?
2) What did you recently finish reading?
3) What do you think you’ll read next?

Aideen has plenty of problems she can’t fix. Her best (and only) friend is pulling away. Her mother’s drinking problem is a constant concern. She’s even running out of outlandish diseases to fake so she can skip PE.

But when Aideen stumbles on her nemesis, overachiever Meabh Kowalski, in the midst of a full-blown meltdown, she sees a problem that—unlike her own disaster of a life—seems refreshingly easy to solve. Meabh is desperate to escape her crushing pile of extracurriculars. Aideen volunteers to help. By pushing Meabh down the stairs.

Problem? Solved. Meabh’s sprained ankle is the perfect excuse to ditch her overwhelming schedule. But when another student learns about their little scheme and brings Aideen another “client” who needs her “help,” it kicks off a semester of traded favours, ill-advised hijinks, and an unexpected chance at love. Fixing other people’s problems won’t fix her own, but it might be the push she needs to start.

I requested an ARC for this because Theresa of sappho’s library kept talking about it on Twitter! And you know I love me some queer YA, especially with lesbian representation! I’m about 15% in and so far this book is absolutely hilarious and I can’t wait to see how it continues! It’s definitely a book I wouldn’t have usually picked up, which is exactly why I love following different reviewers. I almost always find wonderful books that otherwise I would have never heard about!

Recently Finished

Alina Keeler was destined to dance, but then a terrifying fall shatters her leg — and her dreams of a professional ballet career along with it.

After a summer healing (translation: eating vast amounts of Cool Ranch Doritos and binging ballet videos on YouTube), she is forced to trade her pre-professional dance classes for normal high school, where she reluctantly joins the school musical. However, rehearsals offer more than she expected — namely Jude, her annoyingly attractive castmate she just might be falling for.

But to move forward, Alina must make peace with her past and face the racism she experienced in the dance industry. She wonders what it means to yearn for ballet — something so beautiful, yet so broken. And as broken as she feels, can she ever open her heart to someone else?

I was kindly given an ALC of this book by Hachette Audio (how exciting!). As a massive theatre and ballet nerd, I knew I would love this book from the moment I heard about it. And oh boy, it did not disappoint. The Other Side of Perfect was everything I wanted it to be and more. The review I wrote about it is possibly the longest I have ever written!

When two Niveus Private Academy students, Devon Richards and Chiamaka Adebayo, are selected to be part of the elite school’s senior class prefects, it looks like their year is off to an amazing start. After all, not only does it look great on college applications, but it officially puts each of them in the running for valedictorian, too.

Shortly after the announcement is made, though, someone who goes by Aces begins using anonymous text messages to reveal secrets about the two of them that turn their lives upside down and threaten every aspect of their carefully planned futures.

As Aces shows no sign of stopping, what seemed like a sick prank quickly turns into a dangerous game, with all the cards stacked against them. Can Devon and Chiamaka stop Aces before things become incredibly deadly?

I somehow managed to win an eARC for this book and I am so excited! It’s one of my most anticipated releases and so far reviews have been absolutely glowing. It comes out next week and I’m not sure if I’ll manage to read my ARC before then, but I have preordered it so maybe I’ll just read the finished copy. I am craving a good mystery and from what I’ve heard, this fits the bill perfectly!
