2022 Book Releases I Look Forward To
It has arrived! My little list of 2022 book releases I look forward to is here in all its (understated) glory. I’m so excited about all the books 2022 has to offer and this is really only a small selection. It’s basically all the titles I’m really hyped about and remembered to write down.
You will notice that the first two books are already out! That’s because I’m late in writing this, nobody judge me. For your convenience, I’ve added both Goodreads and Storygraph links for each book. This way, if something catches your eye, you can easily add it to your list and not forget it, like I do all the time!
And by the way, if you want to keep up with what I’m reading at any given moment, you should totally follow me on my Storygraph and Goodreads accounts. Just saying, it’ll be fun. Now, let’s talk about some of the 2022 book releases I can’t wait for!
My 2022 Anticipated Releases
The Kindred – Alechia Dow – January 4
I enjoyed The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow a lot so naturally, another book set in the same universe called my name! In The Kindred, a mind-linked duke and commoner crash-land on earth after the duke is accused of murdering the royal family. Chaos ensues… This is the one 2022 release that I’ve already read! Alechia was kind enough to send me an ARC and I loved it so much! If you’re looking for a joyful, queer and Black sci-fi story, this one’s for you!
The Monarchs – Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige – January 11
The Ravens was one of my favourite books of 2020 (you can find my review here) and I’m so hyped for the sequel! I fell in love with Scarlett, Vivi and all the other witches and can’t wait to meet them again. I have a feeling there are bigger and spookier things ahead in this sequel.
The Red Palace – June Hur – January 25
I hadn’t heard of this one before multiple separate friends raved about it! And I have to say, a historical murder mystery sounds very intriguing! I still have The Silence of Bones by June Hur on my TBR so maybe 2022 will be my year of June Hur books.
At the End of Everything – Marieke Nijkamp – January 25
I recently read Kith and Kin, my first Marieke Nijkamp book, and it made me want to read their other works! At the End of Everything follows a group of delinquent teenagers in a treatment center when suddenly the outside world is hit by a deadly disease. This is going to be the first novel about a pandemic I ever read and I’m very curious to see what that feels like!
Light Years from Home – Mike Chen – January 25
It’s not a secret that Mike Chen’s We Could Be Heroes is one of my favourite 2021 books. I wrote a rambly review about it! So to say that I am excited for Light Years From Home is an understatement. A family-focused story that also involves an impending intergalactic war? I’m all in.
The Turning Pointe – Vanessa L. Torres – February 22
I love stories about dance, and 2022 is blessing me with two that I’m super excited about! The Turning Pointe is set in 1980s Minneapolis and follows Prince-obsessed Rosa. Her father runs the ballet company she dances at, but Rosa would do anything for a chance to dance with Prince. I don’t read a lot of historical fiction but this sounds so so good!
Turning – Joy L. Smith – March 1
Say hello to dance book number two! Turning follows Genie, a young Black ballerina who has to confront the past and reassess her future after an accident ends her career. I have a feeling this book will make me cry a lot but I look forward to the pain! I’m also excited to have more YA with disability representation on my radar for 2022!
The Bone Orchard – Sara A. Mueller – March 22
The Bone Orchard is a gothic mystery in a world filled with magic and secrets. A dying emperor asks his favourite concubine (who’s also a witch) to solve his murder. The suspects? His three sons. I don’t fully know what to expect from this book, but it sounds like it could become a 2022 favourite!
Portrait of a Thief – Grace D. Li – April 5
I love a good heist story (so much that I’m currently attempting to write one). So of course, Portrait of a Thief is on my radar. A group of college students and dropouts, each with skills worthy of a heist, are tasked to steal back priceless Chinese artefacts. Hello? If this doesn’t sound like a book that’ll devour me as much as I’ll devour it, I don’t know.
Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak – Charlie Jane Anders – April 5
I enjoyed Victories Greater Than Death, the first book in this series. Queer and chaotic sci-fi that’s bursting with imagination? Exactly my kind of book. I’m super curious to see where Charlie Jane Anders is taking the story and the characters.
Very Bad People – Kit Frick – April 5
Who am I, if not a lover of YA dark academia and mystery? Nobody at all. Trying to find answers about her mother’s death, Calliope attends the same boarding school her mother went to. This book promises lots of secrets – and secret societies! This sounds right up my street and, in true unprofessional mystery-solver fashion, I’ll definitely attempt to figure out the mystery as I read!
The No-Show – Beth O’Leary – April 12
This book only made its way onto my radar recently, but I’m very curious about it! This book follows three women, three dates…and one man who’s missing. As you might suspect, the mystery aspect is what drew me to this book. I’m curious to see what Beth O’Leary does with it in the context of a romance!
Book Lovers – Emily Henry – May 3
I’ve enjoyed both of Emily Henry’s previous books so naturally, I’m excited for Book Lovers! Honestly, the only thing I expect this book to be is a fun ride. And I’m pretty sure Emily Henry can deliver.
How to Solve a Crime – Angela Gallop – May 24
What’s this, a death/forensics book in my 2022 book releases list? It’s more likely than you think! I listened to the audiobook for Angela Gallop’s first book When the Dogs Don’t Bark and loved it! I especially liked the amount of specific scientific insight she gave readers, something that I often find lacking in popular books about forensic science.
Tokyo Dreaming – Emiko Jean – May 31
I loved Tokyo Ever After (you can find my review here) and I’m excited about the sequel! As you can tell, my anticipated releases include quite a few sequels. I’m so happy that I get to revisit these worlds and see how the story continues!
Hell Followed with Us – Andrew Joseph White – June 7
Admittedly, I know almost nothing about this book. What I do know is that it follows trans boy Benji who’s running from the cult that raised him and started the apocalypse. This screams queer chaos, found family and “the kind of book that has you gasping at the twists”.
How to Fake it in Hollywood – Ava Wilder – June 14
Fake dating is quite possibly the best romance trope, in my humble opinion. It’s like candy to me, if you put it in front of me, I will eat it. And oh my, I can’t wait for this Hollywood fake romance! There’s no beach near me, but if there was, this would be my perfect beach read.
The Lies We Tell – Katie Zhao – August 9
By now my love for Katie Zhao is no secret. And she’s back with another YA thriller that I’m sure I’ll adore! Rivals-to-lovers? Yes, please. I’m super excited that The Lies We Tell is set on a college campus! While I’m still older than most YA protagonists, I am still a student and reading about fictional colleges is so fun!
The Final Gambit – Jennifer Lynn Barnes – August 30
The finale of The Inheritance Games series is upon us! Here are reviews for book one and book two, in case you’re curious what I thought. Despite my mixed feelings about some narrative choices and apprehension towards certain boys, I’m super excited to see how this concludes. I have a feeling I won’t be ready for the twists Jennifer Lynn Barnes is throwing our way.
Bloodmarked – Tracy Deonn – November 8
And finally: Bloodmarked. The sequel I’ve been waiting for the moment I finished Legendborn. I genuinely don’t have the words to express how excited I am for this book, so I’m just not going to try. If you haven’t read Legendborn yet, please do yourself a favour and go read it. You’ll thank me. And then you can join me in the wait for this sequel so I don’t have to suffer alone, okay?
And those are some of the 2022 book releases I can’t wait for! No matter what happens in 2022, the fact I have these books to look forward to already means it’s going to be a good year.
What 2022 releases are you excited about?
If you like my work and would like to support me, you can buy me a coffee!

I’m pretty excited about Portrait of a Thief and The Red Palace as well because people keep talking about it. Oh and Book Lovers. I’m not a fan of Emily Henry books but this sounds so good and i’m hoping i’ll like at least one of their books haha.
Your Tita Kate
Omg Tokyo Ever After is going to have a sequel!!!! I’m so excited, this is literally the first time I’m hearing this. Okay gotta read Tokyo Ever After become it comes out lol.
Alsoooo The Red Palace was amazing!
bookshelfsoliloquies
I literally did a little happy dance when I found out about the sequel! I fully assumed it was a standalone and was so sad and then boom, sequel! And somehow everyone seems to have already read The Red Palace, I thought it was already out because so many people told me to read it 😂
Your Tita Kate
there was a time last year where like *everyone* got approved for e-arcs I think and honestly if it was a marketing ploy it worked because it’s gotten so much attention lmfao. I hope you like it!!
saima @ storieswithsaima
Loved reading this! I’m excited for so many of these, and omg I hadn’t heard of Very Bad People but I’m immediately adding it to my tbr, because I love dark academia as well!!
Kat Impossible
You already know that I’m absolutely hyped for Portrait of a Thief, but it was really fun to see your other picks! I can’t say I’m really on top of new or upcoming releases, so the only book I can contribute that I’m also excited for is The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston. It’s described as Ghost meets the Bold Type when a ghostwriter gets haunted by her dead editor? And it’s a love story? And one of the characters is described as being based off Lee Pace?
Ena J.
Yay, a lot of these titles are also already on my radar! I’m excited to see how you and I both end up liking them this year. <3
Jenna @ Falling Letters
The Bone Orchard is one on my radar. I’m also keeping an eye out for R.F. Kuang’s next book, Babel. I haven’t read The Poppy War (sounds a little intense for me) but I’m curious to try what she does next.
Marie
