Weekly Reading Update #3 – April 24, 2022
Welcome back to my weekly reading update! As expected, my reading took a bit of a backseat in the midst of university stress and chaos. I put one book down and picked up a new YA thriller instead. Let’s get into my reading update.
What I Read This Week
When I started writing this post this morning, I had nothing to report. Because I hadn’t finished a book all week. And then I just devoured a whole book in a single sitting, oops.
Dead End Girls follows two teens faking their deaths and Natalie Naudus is one of the two narrators, so I just had to try and get an ALC. And thanks to Hachette Audio, I did!
A full review will be up hopefully sometime this week but for now, let me say this: Dead End Girls is a YA thriller that moves at a breakneck speed. I have never been this delighted at things going terribly wrong. If “be gay, do crime” was a book, this is a strong contender for that label. It also firmly fits into the “good for her” genre. So if you liked Ocean’s 8 and Gone Girl, give this book a try! It’s delightfully queer and I loved the character arcs.
What I’m Currently Reading
There have been some shifts on my currently reading shelf!
I’ve barely made any progress with Pretty Dead Queens and am still hovering at the 20% mark.
Long Story Short continues to be delightful, as a former theatre kid I’m having so much fun with this book! I’m about 35% into it and excited to see where it goes, especially once the romance develops.
You may have noticed that Very Bad People is missing from this update. I have decided to put it away for now because I haven’t had the urge to pick it up in a while. Usually, that’s a sign that the time isn’t right for that particular book!
The Week Ahead
Let’s take a look at my reading week ahead…or at least how I imagine it will go.
Last week, I talked about trying to make reading part of my nighttime routine again. Of course, in the stress of the week, I completely forgot about that plan. Now, I’m ready to try again. Admittedly, most of my reading happens throughout the day, especially with the audiobooks I’m listening to. But reading before bed seems like a nice way to unwind and may help me to tackle my ebook and physical TBR. So I’ll try this new routine and report back to you next week!
I really want to finish Pretty Dead Queens and Long Story Short this coming week. However, because I know myself and life is unpredictable, I am making Long Story Short my top priority. I’m furthest into it and it’s easier to pick up in smaller chunks than a YA thriller.
Let’s Chat!
Thank you so much for reading this Weekly Reading Update! Despite all the stress, I am quite happy with the amount of reading I did. Reading a book in one sitting so close before writing this post has been exhilarating and a little stressful! Additionally, I’m super proud of myself for putting a book down when it wasn’t working for me!
📚What have you been reading this week?
📚Do you put books down for a later time or simply dnf forever?
I hope you have a lovely day,
If you like my work and would like to support me, you can buy me a coffee!

I’ve also had to deal with some stress and chaos, so my reading took a backseat too. It’s cool that you still managed to read something!! I don’t think that I even picked up a book this past week.

I also read and LOVED Dead End Girls, the audiobook was so damn good. I wrote my review for it last night and that was so hard??? like how do you talk about the book? it’s just so good.
I also read before bed to unwind most nights, I love that little routine for myself.
